Def Jam Recordings co-founders Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons are laying out their plans to celebrate the label's 30th birthday.
On Wednesday, Def Jam unveiled a new 30th anniversary logo.
In the coming weeks, they will reveal a number of events, albums and films that will honor the artists who contributed verses to the label's history. Events will be announced on social media and a new website, DefJam30.com.
In a joint statement, Rubin and Simmons say "it's hard to believe" that three decades have passed since they "first put the Def Jam logo on a hip-hop recording."
They also point out that while the label started in a New York University dormitory, it has become "the gold standard for taste, culture, and revolutionary thought."
