PRESIDENTIAL PORTRAIT CEREMONY: On Hold Between Trump and Obama

There will be no presidential portrait ceremony in the White House this year, as tension between Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama continues.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • If Trump is re-elected, some speculate it could be 2025 before Obama comes back to the White House to see his portrait displayed.
  • It's not only on Trump. Obama reportedly has no interest in taking part in the ritual as long as Trump is in the White House.
  • For the good of the country, can't we all get along and move on from this animosity?

There will be no presidential portrait ceremony in the White House this year, as tension between Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama continues.

The tradition of a first-term president hosting a ceremony at the White House for the unveiling of the official portrait of his predecessor has gone on for decades, no matter the political affiliation of the presidents involved.

As Obama said when he hosted former President George W. Bush in 2012 for his portrait unveiling, "We may have our differences politically, but the presidency transcends those differences."

Apparently, that doesn't apply to the Trump White House, as people familiar with the situation say that there will be no Obama portrait unveiling with Trump in the White House. (NBC News)
