Young Thug reached a mutual agreement with AEG that effectively will end his years-long legal battle with the touring company.
According to a report Billboard published on Tuesday, March 4, legal teams for Thugger and AEG confirmed both parties "entered into a settlement" five years after the company sued the Atlanta native for allegedly breaking the terms of their partnership. Their touring agreement gave AEG exclusive rights to promote his performances. When they filed their lawsuit in 2020, AEG claimed Thug “immediately failed and refused" to fulfill the deal after he allegedly performed at shows without AEG and pocketed the money.
AEG said they gave Young Thug an advance of $5.3 million, which he never paid back. They also secured the BUSINESS IS BUSINESS rapper's copyrights to his music as collateral, however, Thug allegedly sold 400 of the copywritten songs to a third party for $16 million. The company previously told a judge the sale may have constituted fraud.
The lawsuit was put on pause due to Young Thug's involvement in the RICO case against the rapper and his label YSL. Thug was thrown in jail in May 2022 where he stayed for over two years while he participated in the longest trial in Georgia's history. He accepted a plea deal in October that had harsh restrictions but got him out of jail. AEG revamped the lawsuit once Thug came home, but they didn't spend too much time in court before they settled. The settlement was finalized on February 18, but the terms of their deal have not been revealed.
The settlement comes after Young Thug booked his first performance since being released from jail. Thugger will headline the Les Ardentes music festival in Belgium in July.
