Suge Knight claims family and friends of the late Tupac Shakur allegedly smoked his ashes after he was cremated.
In an interview People published on Tuesday, July 1, Knight recalled the night when Shakur was pronounced dead days after he was shot in Las Vegas. The Death Row Records co-founder said he was in 'Pac's room in the hospital when the rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur, demanded that her son be cremated within minutes after he passed. Knight claimed he tried to push back because 'Pac told him didn't want to be cremated just a few weeks prior to his death
“I told her, ‘Look, I don’t know if I can do that,’” Knight said. “He told me, ‘When I go, I want every rapper at my funeral to grab the mic. I want them to kiss me head to toe. Just like in ‘Life Goes On'... He didn’t want to be cremated.”
“She gave me one of those mama looks, like, ‘Shut your a** up and do what I said.’ Then she started cussing me out. ‘Get this s**t done!’” he continued. “I paid someone a million dollars cash to take care of it.”
After his remains were returned to his mother, Knight claimed a group of 'Pac's closest family and friends gathered to honor him. He said the bag with his ashes was passed around in a circle. During that time, someone took some of the remains, rolled them into a blunt, and smoked it.
“I was so happy to say I was on probation — I couldn’t smoke,” Knight recalled. “I told his mother, ‘Moms, I’d love to, but if I hit that, I’ll get in trouble.' I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him.”
2Pac was shot during a drive-by on September 7, 1996, and passed away six days later on September 13. His murder went unsolved for nearly three decades before police finally arrested Duane "Keefe D" Davis and charged him with murder. Despite talking about his alleged involvement in interviews and a book, Davis pleaded not guilty. He's currently in jail awaiting trial.
