Mustard is reflecting on his transformation following his successful weight loss journey.

The "Not Like Us" producer recently told Men's Health what inspired him to lose 120 pounds over the past few years. Mustard, born Dijon “Mustard” McFarlane, said he first got inspired to focus on his health after the death of his good friend Fredo Santana, an artist who passed away from kidney and liver failure due to Xanax and lean abuse. Once the pandemic hit in 2020, Mustard was motivated to change his eating and drinking habits, which helped him lose 70 lbs.

“I’ve been trying to lose weight for my whole adult life,” Mustard said.

“I’ve had five different trainers," he continued. "I’ve done every diet you can think of.… I remember the doctor would always tell me I have a fatty liver. So I’d say, ‘How do I get rid of a fatty liver?’ He’d say, ‘Lose weight.’ How do I get rid of high blood pressure? Lose weight. I got tired of hearing that.”

Mustard cut out all the unhealthy meals he used to rely on, especially his late-night cravings. By 2021, he began to replace them with cleaner options. He recalled a meal he got from his cameraman: grilled tilapia, spinach, and corn. After eating that almost daily for three months, Mustard dropped from his 2019 weight of 340 lbs to 215 lbs. Today, he clocks in at 225, but his true goal is to get down to 190. In addition to focusing on his weight loss journey, Mustard is also working on his next album. It would serve as the follow-up to his 2024 LP, Faith of a Mustard Seed.
