Two Black women are reeling from an apparent racially motivated attack in rural Virginia that left one of them hospitalized with severe injuries, per Atlanta Black Star.

Last month, Amylah Majors and her wife, Jamaria Gaskins, Richmond residents who were visiting family nearby, pulled over on Partlow Road in the rural Spotsylvania County after hitting debris on the road. During the roadside stop, the couple said a group of white residents confronted them, hurling racial slurs and threats.

“They called us [N-words], told us we didn’t belong there, and one of them even exposed himself while screaming hate and slurs at us,” Majors recalled on a GoFundMe campaign launched to cover medical and legal costs.

Majors said the group continued their tirade, chasing the couple in vehicles as they tried to flee.

“One of them rode up beside us on a 4-wheeler and aimed a gun directly at my head through the driver’s window," she said.

During the chase, Majors lost control of her vehicle and was ejected from the car. She suffered a fractured spine, broken rib and clavicle, head trauma, and a concussion.

“I woke up in the hospital… I am beyond grateful to be alive.”

Video of the incident led to misdemeanor charges against Elizabeth Wolfrey, 32, and Mark Goodman, 59. Wolfrey was charged with brandishing a firearm, while Goodman was charged with indecent exposure. A third person involved has not yet been charged.

Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Maj. Delbert Myrick said an investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Officials also confirmed that hate crime charges are under review.

“We have a detective assigned… the video is mind-blowing. Hate and racism — we don’t want that in our community at all.”

Wolfrey and Goodman are scheduled to appear in court on November 20.

“This was not just an accident — this was an attempted act of violence meant to harm and silence us,” Majors said. “This kind of hate is still out here. It’s real. It’s violent. It almost killed us.”
