Tracee Ellis Ross is getting candid about her relationship with former President Barack Obama, recalling a time he "failed" her as a friend.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ross joked about how Obama previously let her down as a friend while she was going through a breakup.

“I broke up with someone, and I remember running into the former president, and he was like, ‘I could have told you that,’” Ross recalled during the interview. “And I was like, ‘Well, you failed as a friend!’ Like, it was your job to say that before, you know what I mean? Like, nip it in the bud.”

The actress said she appreciates it when her friends share their opinions.

"I always prefer my friends to speak up when they see something,” Ross said.

During her late-night show appearance, Ross quipped that she may need to ask former first lady Michelle Obama for help finding love.

“I’ve never asked Michelle [Obama] to set me up, which I think perhaps is dumb and I need to get on that,” she said with a laugh.

Despite their closeness, Ross noted she still shows respect when it comes to addressing the former First Lady.

“In public, she’s Mrs. Obama, former First Lady. There’s no question,” Ross said. “I was calling her that also as my friend.”
